SECUREcorp Head Office Implements Protégé
New SECUREcorp Head Office incorporating a state of the Art Grade A1 Electronic Monitoring Centre implements Protégé.
When SECUREcorp built their new $10M facility in Mulgrave Victoria, it was to include not only their National Head Office but also an ASIAL Graded A1 Central Monitoring Station, as such they wanted everything associated with the building to be state-of-the art providing the latest solutions available in the marketplace. Alan Myall, General Manager – Electronics for SECUREcorp, had to source and implement solutions for the entire office, which included an integrated Security/Access Control system.
Being a Grade A1 monitoring facility, there were a number of system parameters required, many quite unique and paramount to the protection of the complex and its staff. Functionality requirements which not only provided a high level of security but also ease in its operation by staff at different levels.
With extensive history and experience in the Electronic Security Industry himself Alan went to see Nic DeAngelis, Victorian State Manager, at Security Merchants, with a list of minimum functionality requirements and, of course a budget. Together, Nic and Alan worked through the requirements and designed a solution utilising Protégé by Integrated Control Technology, designed and manufactured in New Zealand. The Protégé integrated Security/Access/Automation system provided an extremely flexible and powerful platform on which to build the solution. With 8MB Memory and Ethernet onboard, the Protégé Main Control Panel provided a base which didn’t require a myriad of expansion modules to get a system up and running. Protégé also provides a scalable solution with LAN based, Optically Isolated, Input, Output and Door Controller options. The Protégé Two Door Controllers, of which there are four varieties, all provide Full Reader In & Reader Out capabilities without reducing them to Single Door Controllers or again, requiring additional hardware.
SECUREcorp’s specification not only required a number of relatively standard functions such as ‘Anti-Passback’, ‘Interlocking’ and ‘Dead-Man’ but Alan also put his own twist on a number of these functions to provide additional levels of security with event monitoring and management.
Monitoring facility ‘Dead Man’ functionality is performed using Paradox ‘Paradome’ 360 Degree Ceiling Mount Detectors connected to the Protégé system. Any inactivity of movement within the monitoring centre, in a 10 minute period will generate an internal Pre-Alarm warning sounder. Staff have less then 30 seconds to move and trigger one of the Paradox detectors or a ‘Dead Man/Man Down’ alarm is generated, again sending information off-site.
Smoke detectors installed throughout the entire complex are connected to and processed by the Protégé system and their status also enunciated on custom Mimic Panels. Mimic Panels also contain reset facilities providing a time-out period to allow the environment in a specific area to stabilise.
The Protégé system Management Software, provides a flexible SQL based Server and Workstation platform enabling monitoring staff and Senior Management the ability to Program, Manage, Monitor and Control the entire system, including staff and visitors. Workstation Licenses are concurrent and not restricted to specific computers and Operational restrictions can be placed on both Workstations and Operators alike.
Alan says – the Protégé system easily exceeded all our requirements, the “jumbo” enclosures made installation a breeze giving plenty of room for cabling and access to the controller circuit boards. The software is one of the easiest to install and operate, training my staff on use was a breeze and they picked it up really quickly, we’ve been using the system for some three months now without any hiccups.
